
Benson Abila
Founder and CEO, M-Taka Solutions
Benson Abila is an award-winning social entrepreneur, civil engineer, and sustainability advocate with over a decade of experience in circular economy systems, waste management, strategic partnerships, and climate innovation. He is the founder of M-taka, an award-winning circular technology company building tech-enabled infrastructure that powers inclusive, data-driven, and traceable circular supply chains and sustainable livelihoods across Africa. Through M-taka, over 20,000 people have been reached across recovery ecosystems, more than 3,100 green jobs supported, over 3,893 tonnes of recyclable materials tracked, and more than 10,156 mt CO2e emissions avoided while strengthening inclusive green livelihoods for underserved communities.
Benson is a 2022 Mandela Washington Fellow, 2023 Metis Fellow, and 2023 Jasiri Fellow. Under his leadership, M-taka has received recognition through the Sankalp Circular Tech Award, Presidential Innovation Award, and the KEPRO SPICE Awards 2024, while he was also recognized among the Top 100 Kenyans 2024. He has collaborated with organizations including USAID, GIZ, Global Affairs Canada, Michigan State University, and the U.S. Embassy–Kenya, among others. Benson also has a passion for leadership and community service and currently serves as President of the U.S.–Kenya Alumni Association, Board Member at the Dolfine Korando Faith Foundation, and Founder of HOK Africa.
